  Message from the Pastor

Rev. William Steven Allen

Interim Pastor

Reverend William Steven Allen was selected to serve as First Baptist Church's Interim Pastor on February 1, 2024. Prior to that, he served as the Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina for 12 years.  Reverend Allen gave a new meaning to Shiloh's motto: "Shiloh Cares About People" by providing emergency housing assistance, utility assistance, assistance with the purchase of medicine, hosting Covid-19 vaccinations, farm fresh food giveaways as well as serving as a voice for the voiceless and speaking truth to power in love,

Rev. Allen graduated from James  Benson Dudley Sr. High School in 1973 as class salutatorian.  He attended North Carolina A&T State University and graduated summa cum laude, with a degree in Professional English in 1976. In May 1979, he received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

In August 1980, Rev. Allen returned home to open a law practice. He was elected to serve as a Resident Superior Court Judge in Guilford County becoming the first Black elected to serve in Guilford County as a Superior Court Judge since Reconstruction.  In 1997, he returned to the practice of law.  Rev. Allen was licensed to preach in 2007 and ordained in 2009.  He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Shaw University in May 2011, and was called to serve as Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in September, 2011.

Rev. Allen's public service activities include member: the General Board of the General Baptist State Convention of N. C.; Board of Visitors of the Shaw University Divinity School; President of the Board of Trustees of Shepherd's Center of Greensboro, Inc.; Chairperson of the Minority Scoutreach Committee of the Old North State Council of the BSA; Recovery Cafe Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Beloved Community Center.

Reverend Allen is married to Sharlene Fuller Allen and they have six children. Stephanie Lanae Allen, Melanie Renee Allen, William Steven Allen, Jr., Irving David Allen, Richard Erwin Allen, and Lara Simone Allen.  They are also the proud grandparents of four grandchildren.
